چکیده
AIM: This study aimed to examine the effect of diabetes mellitus on histology parotid glands and give a scientific overview distribution proliferative activity myoepithelial cells (MECs) encircling both ducts acini in gland normal diabetic mongrel dogs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twelve male dogs were used experiment divided into two equal groups, group I, control group, II, with alloxan-induced diabetes. The II injected by fresh preparation single dose 100 mg/kg body weight alloxan monohydrate dissolved physiological saline. Ten days later, blood glucose level was determined using enzymatic colorimetric test; presented at or above 200 mg/dL included experiment. Three months sacrificed from all groups dissected prepared for histological examination double immunohistochemical expression actin proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). RESULTS: Histological findings H E staining confirmed that parenchyma had glandular atrophy characterized loss structure, acinar degeneration, dilatation duct system presence like structure. Moreover, there predominance fibrous component fat within compartments. Immunohistochemical revealed positive scattered weak mild quantity embracing some intralobular ducts. Expression PCNA actin-positive few reactions small Parotid mild-to-moderate acini, intralobular, interlobular actin- reaction more concentrated surrounding intercalated CONCLUSION: Routine our showed abundant pathological changes parenchymal tissue elements, including acinar, ductal, MECs significant impact saliva production secretion resulting dry mouth. indicated routine regeneration process, whereas might indicate transformation rather than regeneration, especially because no remedial measures taken during this investigation.

Proliferative Activity of Myoepithelial Cells in Irradiated Rabbit Parotid and Submandibular Salivary Glands
BACKGROUND The behavior of salivary myoepithelial cells (MEC) during chronic irradiation exposure is unknown. This study aimed to investigate the response of MEC to prolonged radiation exposure. MATERIALS AND METHODS 16 rabbits and four controls were irradiated with either 10 Gy, 20 Gy, 30 Gy or 40 Gy (Gray units) of direct axial beam radiation. Parotid and submandibular glands were removed a...

BACKGROUND The most common histological diagnosis of bilateral parotid gland neoplasm is Warthin tumor. Bilateral malignant tumors of the parotid gland are extremely rare. METHODS A 60-year-old man presented with a painless mass in the right preauricular area and an MRI scan showed multiple masses in the parotid glands, bilaterally. A standard superficial parotidectomy was performed on the ri...
متن کاملAtrophy of myoepithelial cells in parotid glands of diabetic mice; detection using skeletal muscle actin, a novel marker☆
In mouse parotid glands, we found expression of skeletal muscle actin (actin-α1) protein and mRNA. We isolated myoepithelial cells from the mouse parotid glands and investigated their actin-α1 expression because smooth muscle actin (actin-α2) has been used as a marker for myoepithelial cells. We used actin-α1 expression to identify pathological changes in diabetic non-obese diabetic (NOD; NOD/S...

nitric oxide (no) is a small molecule synthesized by most of mammalian cells with diverse biological activities including vasodilatation, host defense and wound healing. impaired wound healing is a common occurrence among diabetics and patients receiving glucocorticoid therapy. on the other hand the application of laser in biomedical area have been increased. thus, the current studies were desi...

Myoepithelial cells (MECs) are considered to be a key participant in most salivary gland diseases, particularly tumors. MECs structurally resemble both epithelial cells and smooth muscles. Diagnostic dilemmas caused are due to inadequacy of characterizing the wide spectrum of morphologic and immunologic features which are different for both normal and neoplastic MECs. This article discusses the...
